Panaji traffic police seek fresh notification on speed limits

The Goa traffic police have written to the North Goa Collector with a request to issue fresh notification on speed limit on various stretches of roads in the jurisdiction of the Panaji traffic cell.

Dharmesh Angle, DySP Traffic, North said that they have written to the North Goa Collector in view of the recent notification issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on the maximum speed limit.

“It is general notification issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for different types of roads and category of vehicles and based on that we have requested notification (on speed limit) on various roads,” said Angle.

“However specific speed limits are already in place at some of the locations along the highway considering various activities going on in that area such as construction of bridges, widening of roads, construction of culverts etc,” informed Angle.

Police are seeking a fresh notification notifying speed limit on various stretches of roads in the jurisdiction of traffic cell, Panaji. From Divja circle to Dargah junction, Old Goa and from Hath Katro Khamb-Old to Banastarim bridge (Dhulapi side), the speed limit is 40 km per hour. From Merces circle to Hath Katro Khamb-Old Goa (Panaji-old Goa bypass road), it is 70 km per hour. From KTC circle Panaji to Siridao bridge (Siridao side) and from Siridao bridge (Goa Velha side) to Zuari bridge (Agacaim side) – two and four wheelers, it is 60 km/hour while transport vehicles it is 70 km/hour.

Bridges such as Banastarim, Siridao, old and new Mandovi bridges, the speed limit is 40 km/hour while Zuari bridge, it is 30 km/hour.

DB Marg from Divja circle to Miramar circle 50 km/hour while all other roads in Panaji (city) 40 km/hour. Rue de Orem road from Old Patto bridge to four-pillar junction 40 km/hour, Raj Bhavan road from Raj Bhavan main gate to Y junction Raj Bhavan 40 km/hour, from NIO circle-Dona Paula to GMC junction Bambolim 60 km/hour, from Miramar circle (Caranzalem internal road) to Dona Paula junction 40km/hour. From science centre junction Miramar to Santo Minguel high school, Taleigao – 50 km/hour, from Madhuban building junction-St Inez to Church junction Taleigao 50 km/hour; from Pilar junction to Hath Katro Khamb-Old Goa 40 km/hour; Goa Velha bypass junction (via Pilar) to Agasaim bypass junction (via Pilar) 40 km per hour.
