VIZIANAGARAM: Superintendent of police G Pala Raju on Tuesday said that the gangrape of 24-year-old Dalit woman allegedly taken place near Saripalli village of Nellimarla police station limits on Sunday was fake.

Addressing reporters in Vizianagaram, the SP said that police investigation proved that the complaint was fake.

The SP said that as she returned home late in the evening, she misguided her family members by saying that she had been raped to gain sympathy.

After the case was reported, the victim's statement was taken and four teams were constituted, headed by DSP ranked officials, for collecting physical and technical evidences.

"Based on the complaint, I personally visited the place where the alleged gangrape was said to have taken place at Saripalli village. The CCTVs footages collected from the area also led to the conclusion that the complaint was fake," he said.

He also said by the time she was said to be raped at an isolated place in the limits of Nellimarla police station, cell tower signals showed that she was in Vizianagaram.

Though she said her bag and other belongings were left in the auto-rickshaw during the said crime, the materials were found at her residence in Pusapatirega. Moreover, the medical reports revealed that there were no physical injuries, both internal and external, on her body.

Finally, all the auto-rickshaw drivers within the limits of 1 and 2 town police stations of Vizianagaram were called to the station for investigation and it was found that the details were not matching.

He congratulated the police officials on bringing the facts to light through the investigation.

DSPs Soumyalatha, T Trinath Rao and AV Ramana, Vizianagaram rural CI D Laxmana Rao, special branch CI D Rama Krishna, SIs Uprendra, Narayana Rao and other constables were part of the investigation teams.
