Four women hoodwink staff of jewel store

Steal pair of gold bangles worth over ₹3 lakh

Four women duped a jewellery shop-owner at Jayanagar and left with gold bangles worth over ₹3 lakh.

Though the theft occurred five days ago, the incident came to light on Tuesday when the owner was checking his inventory. He had to deliver the bangles to another customer, but was unable to locate them.

When they scanned footage from CCTVs installed in the shop, they realised that the four women had duped them. The footage shows the accused diverting the attention of the staff, and leaving the shop with the bangles, which they had not purchased, said the police.

“Two women kept the staff busy while the other two committed the crime,” a senior police officer said.

In his complaint, Ambati Prasad Babu said that the pair of bangles weighed 95 grams and were valued at ₹3.05 lakh. They had been made for a customer who wanted a particular design, and had been kept in a display case on April 13.

The police are now trying to track down the women.
