Pune: For their demand to include them in the Scheduled Tribe (ST), Dhangar community will take help of Bharatiya Republican Party (BRP) national president Prakash Ambedkar.

The community has also decided to field their candidate in upcoming State Assembly elections. Former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Dhangar community Vijay More made these announcements on Monday in Pune in presence of Ambedkar at a joint press conference.

Addressing the media, Ambedkar said, “As per Indian Constitution, Dhangar community is mentioned in ST category. However, they have not got any benefit till date. Therefore, we have decided to fight for their demands against the
government.”

More added, “We have called a conference on April 20 in Pandharpur to decide further action plan. All political parties gave us assurance about including us in ST category including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. However, every party fooled us. Now, we have decided to become a part of the government and fulfil our demand.”

He said, “We have not given any invitation to Mahadev Jankar and we will not do so.”

On former Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) minister Chhagan Bhujbal issue, Ambedkar said, “Enforcement Directorate (ED) has completed its inquiry. Therefore, he should get bail. Otherwise, the court should start a case against him. It is a big mistake that despite completion of the enquiry, he didn’t get bail.”
