President Trump and Fox News host Sean Hannity are said to be close. Maybe even closer than the Michael Cohen link would lead you to believe.
They reportedly talk several times a week, usually early in the morning and late at night. They talk about Hannity’s show, the president’s agenda, the Russia probe and even, according to the Washington Post, what Trump should be tweeting about.
In fact, one presidential adviser, as quoted anonymously by the Washington Post, put it like this:
‘He basically has a desk in the place.’
And by “the place,” the source, of course, is referring to the White House, where aides, according to the newspaper, have dubbed Hannity the “unofficial chief of staff.”
The Post said it interviewed more than a dozen friends, advisers and associates of both Trump and Hannity for the story.
Former deputy Trump campaign manager David Bossie was one who shared his thoughts on Hannity on the record: “The bottom line is, during the heat of the campaign when relationships are forged, he was always there, offering good advice, in person and on television,” Bossie said of Hannity. “The president sees him as an incredibly smart and articulate spokesman for the agenda.”
According to a veteran Trump ally quoted in the story, only a small group of people who talk with Trump don’t feel the need to modulate toward obsequiousness: “Sean is one of them,” the source reportedly said, adding that Blackstone Group’s chief executive, Stephen Schwarzman; the activist investor Carl Icahn; and first lady Melania Trump “may be the only others on that list.”
