In this episode of Daytona Motor Mouths the primary topics of discussion include Kyle Busch’s 2-race winning streak, Jimmie Johnson and Chase Elliott, Mustangs and Talladega’s “Drive Days.”

Ken Willis and Godwin Kelly begin the podcast talking about Busch and how he has been turning top-3 finishes into victories in recent weeks.

Busch’s crew chief Adam Stevens is clipped talking about how difficult the Bristol weekend was for all competitors.

Bristol’s Cup race was cut in two with about half run on Sunday then finished on Monday afternoon. Ken swears he watched “the last 50 laps” of Monday’s race.

It was at Bristol that long-suffering Hendrick Motorsports was good enough to put two of its four Chevrolets in the top-5 finishers, led by Johnson’s third-place effort.

The boys offer up a Johnson audio clip on how he has endured momentum shifts (good and bad) during his 17-year career as a Cup Series driver.

Before exiting Segment 1, the guys talk about the rapidly approaching race at Richmond.

“You’ll Get that in Big Time Auto Racing” is dominated by the news that Ford plans to replace the Fusion with one of its prominent nameplates, the Mustang in 2019.

Godwin takes us back to 1930s style radio broaedcast with his questioning of Ford honcho Mark Rushbrook, who used a cellphone in Europe to talk to the media on the phone.

After they work through the Mustang announcement they go straight to “Green, White, Checkers” where Talladega’s “Drive Days” is discussed.

Ken reads a copy of the rules that will allow fans to drive their passenger cars on the 2.66-mile tri-oval. It is a real what-the-what moment in the podcast studio.

And before they get done, they recount the drama Bubba Wallace experienced at Bristol when he got trapped in his motorhome bathroom.

“I’m getting claustrophobic,” Ken says. “I can’t imagine being stuck in such a small area.”

Finally, Godwin asks listeners to help spark up a new segment called “Ask Willie.”

Using the hashtag #AskWillie on Twitter, listeners are instructed to ask Ken anything about NASCAR. Ken says he will spin up an answer to any question about big-time, stock-car racing.

Each week, join the Daytona Beach News-Journal’s Godwin Kelly and Ken Willis, two of the preeminent motorsports writers in America, as they hit all the hot topics in NASCAR. And maybe a few other things.
