The 22nd National Congress of the CPI(M) will begin in Hyderabad today. The highest decision-making forum of the party, will deliberate and pass 25 resolutions besides electing new General Secretary and party’s Central Committee.
The five- day conference will begin with the inaugural address by party General Secretary Sitaram Yechury and culminate with a massive public meeting on April 22nd. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, former Chief Minister of Tripura Manik Sarkar and about 780 delegates from across the country are taking part in the event. The stage is set for the inaugural of CPM’s 22nd national conference which is taking place in Hyderabad after a gap of 27 years. The national congress assumes significance as the veteran party is poised to explore the possibility of strengthening leftist democratic alliance by forming third or united front to fight against the BJP-led NDA government at the centre.
The Party ’s electoral debacle even in a state like Tripura where it had ruled for 20 years is set to crop up during deliberations. All eyes are set on the political resolution that will be adopted by the Congress as it may give a call for the realignment of anti-BJP forces ahead of general elections.
Issues such as the impact of demonetisation, frauds in PSU banks, increasing atrocities against women, foreign policy is set to be discussed threadbare.
