The Lancer varsity baseball team suffered two crushing losses last week before rebounding for a convincing win to finish off a three-game week. 

First, Amherst was pounded by defending 4A state champion Liberty Christian Academy, 17-0. The Bulldogs scored six runs in the third inning and answered with nine in the fourth inning to cruise to the five-inning win. LCA had 16 hits off Lancer pitching, including four home runs.

Kyle Orme had two hits and Christian Martin added a single for the only three hits.Next, Amherst lost to Brookville, 15-3. The Bees broke open a 2-0 fifth inning lead with four runs in the fifth and eight runs in the seventh. Orme had two hits while Seth Mays had an RBI. Timmy Byers picked up the loss on the mound.

Finally, Amherst exploded for nine runs in the first inning to crush Heritage, 14-1. Martin led the game off with a home run to lead the offensive explosion. Martin finished with two hits, three runs scored and three RBIs. Orme continued his hot streak with three more hits while driving in three runs. Orme was 7-9 this week for Amherst at the plate. Chris Thomason had two hits and scored twice while his brother Ryan drove in three runs. Lucas Dickerson picked up his first win of the season with a complete game effort. Dickerson allowed two hits, zero earned runs, walked seven and struck out 10. 

Amherst, 6-3, will travel to Brookville on Friday.

Junior varsity baseball: Lancers 2, LCA 1

The Lancer junior varsity team went 2-1 during a busy week of baseball.

First, Amherst defeated Liberty Christian Academy, 2-1. The JV Lancers grabbed the lead in the third inning. Brandon Franklin doubled and scored Thomas Thompson.

One batter later, Dylan Hatter singled which scored Franklin with the eventual game-winning run. Alex Mitchell pitched a complete game, allowing five hits, walking one while striking out four.

Next, Amherst saw its five game winning streak snapped with a 9-7 loss to Brookville. Brookville scored twice in the fifth inning to take the lead from the Lancers. Dakota Maberry had two hits and a RBI. Franklin, Noah Cheatham and Tyleik Brown also knocked in runs for Amherst. Cheatham suffered the loss on the mound.

Finally, Amherst pounded Heritage, 15-2, to end the week. Franklin had two hits, including an inside-the-park homer, scored twice and drove in two runs. Jonah Cunningham had three RBIs, Maberry had two hits and three RBIs while Xzavier Ellis had two hits, scored two runs and knocked in two. Cunningham threw a complete game on the mound for the JV Lancers, allowing three hits, walking two and striking out six.

Amherst, 6-2, will travel to Brookville on Friday for a 5 p.m. contest with the Bees.
