Meet Preethi Herman — the only Indian selected for Obama Foundation Fellowship

Out of 20,000 people who applied from 191 countries for the inaugural Obama Foundation Fellowship, 20 individuals have been selected and an Indian has made it to the list – Preethi Herman. The global executive director of Change.org, Preethi will now attend the fellowship programme that aims to inspire a wave of civic innovation.

Who is Preethi Herman?

Hailing from a small town called Gudalur near Ooty in Tamil Nadu, Preethi was born to a middle-class family.

In her early life, Preethi has spent time working with the tribals of Orissa and Dalit communities of Karnataka.

In April this year, Change.org Foundation announced her as its Global Executive Director.

In the Foundation, Preeti leads its mission to support citizen-led and technology-driven social movements in the Global South.

As the Global ED of the Foundation, she leads teams across Latin America, Asia and other regions to support all citizens in having a voice in the issues affecting their communities and countries.

Preethi, who is now one of the Obama Foundation Fellows, will come together with 19 other civic leaders from 10 countries to collaborate, exchange ideas and inspire a wave of civic innovation.

The 2018 Obama Foundation Fellows come from diverse backgrounds but share a common desire to make positive change and create the world as it should be, said David Simas, CEO of the Obama Foundation, in a statement. The first fellows' gathering will be in Chicago in May.
