Trial in the alleged multi-crore power scam involving Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho will start from May 3 in the North Goa Principal Sessions Court.

The North Goa Principal Sessions Court has directed Godinho and the six other accused to remain present in the court on May 3 to face trial in the alleged 2001 multi-crore power scam.

On January 17, 2018, while disposing Godinho’s petition, which was pending before the Supreme Court for over a decade, the apex court upheld the High Court of Bombay at Goa order directing framing of charge and declined to give any relief to the former power minister. Godinho had filed Special Leave

Petition in 2007.

Godinho, who presently is the Panchayat Minister, had challenged the order passed by the High Court directing framing of charges against him in the multi-crore power scam case.

By an order dated October 26, 2007, the High Court had directed framing of charges against Godinho under Section 13(1) (d) (i) and (iii) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 read with Section 120B of the Indian Penal Code.

The High Court in its order also noted that the charges against Godinho were investigated and charge sheet filed based on a complaint filed by Manohar Parrikar and that it appeared that the case took different turns depending upon which government was in power in Goa.
