Labourer kills another over wage difference

Murdered for fight over ₹250: police

A 24-year-old labourer has been arrested for allegedly murdering his co-worker following an argument over equal distribution of wages, the police said on Tuesday. The murder took place over a sum of ₹250, they added.

The victim, Lalu, a labourer from Punjab, used to visit Delhi along with other labourers during the harvesting season.

The accused, Sanjay alias Bitto, worked for Mr. Lalu, the police said, adding that one Rajesh also worked with them. On March 30, the trio were given ₹1,000 for their work, the police said.

“Mr. Lalu gave ₹250 to Sanjay and Rajesh each. He kept ₹500 for himself. Sanjay and Rajesh had an argument with Mr. Lalu over unequal distribution of money. Mr. Lalu slapped the duo and asked them to keep quiet,” said DCP (Dwarka) Shibesh Singh.

Hit with bricks

At night when Mr. Lalu went to bed, Sanjay and Rajesh picked up bricks and hit him on the head, the police said. The duo fled after the incident, leaving Mr. Lalu injured.

The bloodstained bricks used as weapon of offence and the mobile phone of the deceased have been seized, the police said.

Rajesh is absconding, the police added.
