Two people were arrested and charged in connection with an armed robbery that police say happened in Georgetown on Tuesday.

The victim drove with a female acquaintance to the Harvest Diner to pick up food. When they parked, a man approached the victim and took out a handgun, according to a Georgetown Police Department news release.

The man ordered the victim out of the car and onto the ground. He took money and personal belongings from the victim before fleeing on foot toward the McDonald's on Route 113, police said.

The woman also fled the scene. Detectives were able to identify her as 23-year-old Tyazsha Sturgis of Georgetown, according to the release.

Detectives went to her residence and found a man there — 24-year-old Terrence Cook of Georgetown — who matched the suspect description provided by the victim. More evidence collected at the residence linked both Cook and Sturgis to the robbery.

Rosco, a K-9 from the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, and his partner found a handgun close to the location of the robbery.

Cook was charged with robbery in the first degree, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and conspiracy in the second degree. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of $101,000 secured bond.

Sturgis was charged with robbery in the first degree, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, conspiracy in the second degree and providing a false statement. She was committed to Women’s Correctional Institution in lieu of $102,000 secured bond.
