The Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel are participating in a massive exercise ‘Operation Gagan Shakti’ at many locations of Uttarkashi located on Indo —China border. As part of its strategy to strengthen the Northern borders, in wake of the recent impasse between two neighbours at Doklam sector, the IAF is concentrating more on its bases in Uttarakhand. One of the objectives of the exercise is to test its operational capabilities of IAF. Chinyalisaud, Harshil and Matli of Uttarkashi are centres of activities of the IAF in the exercise.

On Tuesday the IAF pilots made three landings of massive transport air craft AN 32 at Chinyalisaud air strip.

The aircraft made its first landing at 7.30 am at Chinyalisaud strip. The tasks of loading down the equipment and men from the aircraft were performed to perfection in the exercise. The Pilots also carried many sorties of MI 17 helicopters of the IAF from Chinyalisaud, Matli and Harshil.

The Chinyalisaud air strip is of strategic importance for the IAF. The IAF Pilots had landed the AN 32 in the month of February this year.
