Bains demands permanent panel to probe into 'false cases'

Press Trust of India  |  Phagwara (Pb)

and MLA Simrajit Singh Bains today demanded setting up of a permanent panel to probe into "false cases" registered against people, especially "activists of political adversaries" of the ruling

Addressing a dharna by activists here, he said Minister has set up Justice (retd) to probe into "false cases" registered during 10 years of SAD-rule.

"But what about the false cases registered during the last 13 months of the government," Bains asked.

"A permanent commission of enquiry should be set up to enquire into false cases registered during Amarinder Singh's government," he said, adding an application by an aggrieved person would be enough for by such a commission to probe the complaint.

Dubbing as shameful the April 13 clash over the installation of a board and renaming of a "chowk" (intersection) in Phagwara, Bains demanded suspension of all those police and civil administration officials in whose presence the incident had taken place.

He also demanded cancellation of FIRs registered against activists in connection with the incident.

Meanwhile, activists of political parties, including the Congress, and SAD, and NGOs took out a march for peace and communal harmony today in view of tension in the town in the wake of the clashes last week.

Meanwhile, the markets remained opened today but wore a desolate look. Most of the educational institutes remained closed and police forces in large number continued to be deployed.
