Los Angeles - Close to 13 000 Alfa Romeo Stelvio models are likely to be recalled, in two separate incidents.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the boot of certain Stelvio models may open 'unintentionally at low speeds'.

The United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) "corrosion at the connectors may cause the liftgate to unintentionally open while moving at speeds of less 4.8km/hr, allowing cargo to fall out of the vehicle, creating a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash."

The second recall is for water leaking at the front of the vehicle causing electrical malfunctions with the lights and wipers, the NHTSA said.

The recalls will start on May 18 and no charge will be provided to the owners.

SA affected?

At the time of publishing Fiat Chrysler South Africa said it is still waiting for a response from its global team regarding whether local vehicles are affected. We will update the story as soon as we receive comment.
