E-rickshaws to provide last mile connectivity in JNU

| | NEW DELHI

In order to provide last mile connectivity within the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus, the JNU has started e-rickshaw service to facilitate eco-friendly mobility for commuters in the campus. These E-rickshaw will be driven by female drivers and would charge Rs 10 per ride.

Initiated as "landmark green project" in the campus on Tuesday the service was flagged off by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar.

"The service provider will be charging a low fare of Rs 10 per ride per person. To promote women entrepreneurship and gender-friendly ambience on the campus, in the coming months all vehicles will be driven by female drivers,"  said  Jagadesh Kumar after flagging off the vehicles.

This will not only reduce the pollution and congestion in the campus but will also discourage people from using motorized vehicles in JNU, said an Official.

E-Rickshaws will be plying on three routes in the campus, connecting all the residential areas, hostels and shopping complexes, library, academic buildings and all the exit gates.

A total of 10 e-rickshaws will be deployed from Tuesday to connect all residential areas, hostels and shopping complexes, library, academic  buildings and all the exit gates, and will ply from 7.30am to 9.30 pm. Depending on the demand, more rickshaws may be deployed in the coming months.
