Man rapes intellectually challenged, held

A 14-year-old intellectually disabled girl was allegedly raped around two weeks ago by her 32-year-old neighbour, the police said on Tuesday, adding that her objectionable videos were circulated on social media.

The main accused had been allegedly sexually exploiting the victim by threatening that he would circulate her videos on social media, the police said, adding that the videos were recorded by two friends of the accused.

The neighbour and his two friends were arrested on Monday, a day after the crime was reported to the Rohini south police station, the police said.

The victim’s family members were unaware of the sexual assault and the blackmailing incident. They filed a complaint only after someone told them on Sunday about their daughter’s objectionable videos on the internet, the police said.

A case under relevant sections of IPC — protection of children from sexual offences (POCSO) Act, and information and technology (IT) act has been registered, the police said.

Rajneesh Gupta, DCP (Rohini), confirmed the crime and said that the main accused is a distant relative and neighbour of the victim. The two other men live in their neighbourhood, he said.

“We raided the suspects’ hideouts and arrested them on Monday. The main accused works as a labourer. The mobile phone used to record the videos belong to one of his arrested friends,” Mr. Gupta said.

The victim lives with her family in a village in Rohini.
