BALLSTON SPA - The 19-year-old driver who hit speeds of 100 mph before losing control of his car and killing a passenger was sentenced to at least five years in prison on Wednesday.
Christopher R. Miranda of Hudson Falls was sent to prison for 5 to 15 years after the father of 16-year-old Zachery Brown told the court he didn't hate Miranda but hoped the death he caused eats at him.
"You killed my only son," Justin Brown said.
Saratoga County Judge James A. Murphy II imposed the sentence after Miranda apologized, telling Miranda that his actions come with consequences.
In February, Miranda pleaded guilty to manslaughter and vehicular assault.
Miranda crashed his car and killed 16-year-old Zachery Brown when he was driving 104 mph on Bluebird Road in Moreau in the early morning hours of Aug. 31, 2017.
Miranda also seriously injured another passenger, a 14-year-old South Glens Falls student who police did not identify.
