Indore: HC notice to PS, VC in Imperial College case

Indore: Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court on Tuesday issued notices to principal secretary (higher education) and Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya vice chancellor and two others for withholding results of BEd students of Imperial College of Professional Studies.

The notices were issued on the petitions filed by first and second semester students of the college stating that the university withheld their results just because their college failed to obtain affiliation. The students of 2016 and 2017 batches claimed that they were allocated admission to Imperial College by Department of Higher Education (DHE) after they cleared entrance test conducted by Vyapam.

They also stated that they were enrolled by the university and were allowed to take first and second semester exams. The students told court that the university took their exams but did not declare results stating that their college failed to obtain affiliation from it.
The students pleaded innocence in the case saying that they should not be made a party to any technical issue between the college and the university.

In the petition, the students said: “While the university has not declared their results of first and second semester, it declared first semester exam timetable for their successor batch. If we failed to clear the first semester exams, we will lose the opportunity to appear in the exams starting from Tuesday.”

As interim relief, the petitioners had sought order for extending the exams but their prayer was not accepted. The court, however issued notices to the respondents in the case. Counsel of the petitioners, Ashish Sharma said that they had sought an order for the DAVV for declaring the results of petitioners. “We have also sought orders for transfer of petitioners to other colleges, if their colleges failed to obtain affiliation from DAVV,” he added. Next hearing is set for May 1.

Modern College students also denied exams

DAVV has also denied BEd first semester exams to Modern College students. Students of the college met registrar Ajay Verma and requested him to permit them to take the exam. But he expressed his inability to do so as their college lacked the university affiliation.
Until the college completes necessary formalities it can’t be granted affiliation and until affiliation is granted, you cannot be allowed to take exams,” Verma told the students. He also informed the students that they were not alone. Students of Imperial College, Vaidahi College, and Subhdeep College were also denied the BEd exams for the same reason.
