Raiders beat Braswell on walkoff
Three days after suffering a disappointing walkoff loss to Denton, the Rider baseball team was on the other end of a scintillating finish.
The Raiders scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to edge district leader Denton Braswell 5-4 at Hoskins Field.
Hunter Klasse had a two-out double that scored two runs and Jerry Montijo had the game-winning single to improve the Raiders to 5-4 in district.
“A huge bounce-back win for our kids tonight,” Rider coach Jeremy Crouch said. “They completed hard all game and finally came through in the seventh. I’m very proud of Hunter and Jerry.”
In addition to the clutch hits, Rider also benefitted from 3.1 innings of scoreless relief from A.J. Burney, who allowed only one hit. Burney relieved Logan Wissinger in the fourth after Braswell went ahead 4-2.
Henrietta upsets Holliday, 10-0
HENRIETTA – Henrietta ended Holliday's 13-game winning streak Tuesday night in emphatic fashion, knocking off the Eagles 10-0 behind Weston Max's two-hit shutout.
The Bearcats, who entered the game with a losing record in district, scored five runs off Holliday starter Blake Gray in the first two innings with Zack West homering and delivering a two-run single. That was all Max needed as he retired 15 of the 17 batters he faced. The Bearcats sealed the win with a five-run fifth inning.
Wildcats have 20-run inning
QUANAH – Archer City had the biggest inning of the year Tuesday with a 20-run outburst in the third frame of a 25-8 victory over Quanah.
The Wildcts were trailing 6-5 in the top of the third when they scored 20 runs off four Quanah pitchers. Conner Byrd punctuated it with a grand slam, but the Wildcats had five other hits, 12 walks, two hit by pitches and only reached once on an error.
Byrd finished the game with seven RBIs while Dylan Briggs and Keegan Beaver drove in four runs.
