Senior citizen found dead inside home

Throat slit, injuries found on other body parts too: cops

A 78-year-old man was found dead with his throat slit inside his home in west Delhi’s Rajouri Garden on Tuesday evening, the police said, adding that they suspect robbery as the motive behind the crime.

The deceased, Jugal Kishore, lived with his wife, Shashi, on the second floor of a building in J block, they said.

The incident took place around 7 p.m. when Mr. Kishore was alone at home as his wife was in the market, the police said. Around 7. 28 p.m. Ms. Shashi returned home and found him lying in a pool of blood.

The house was found vandalised and valuables were missing, the police added. It seems that the deceased tried to resist the robbery bid resulting in a scuffle as there were injuries on his other body parts as well, the police said. The body has been sent for an autopsy. Preliminary probe suggests that the killers used a kitchen knife and the entry to the house was found to be friendly, they added.

“We are also finding if there was a property dispute. We are interviewing family members and they suspect some property papers are also missing,” a police officer said. Ms. Shashi has told the police that Mr. Kishore was in the kitchen when she had left home due to which the door was not bolted. An FIR under sections of murder and robbery has been filed .

The police are probing whether the couple had employed a helper in the past few days whose antecedents are yet to be verified. CCTV cameras from the building are being scanned to identify the killers, who the police suspect might have fled through the main entry.

Driver questioned

A driver from the adjacent apartment has been questioned, the police said.
