KANPUR: A dalit student,
Bhim Singh, enrolled in the third year of PhD programme in mechanical engineering department of IIT-Kanpur, allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday by hanging himself at his hostel room.
The
Kalyanpur police, which reached the hostel, had to break the door to recover the body. Police said that the student used a bedsheet to hang himself. The autopsy would be conducted on Thursday after the parents of the deceased arrive.
Bhim, a native of
Faridabad, had done his BTech from NIT, Warangal before joining PHd course at
IIT Kanpur in 2015. Police found a suicide note in the room, which was torn into pieces.
