RIDGEFIELD — The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service will host an informational meeting to discuss rehabilitating the Norwalk River Great Swamp Dam in Ridgefield.
DEEP, with the help of NRCS, is developing a plan to rehabilitate the dam so it meets current safety, performance and design criteria. The dam provides flood protection to both Redding and Ridgefield and enhances habitat for wetland wildlife, according to a release.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Charter Oak Room of the Ridgefield Recreation Center. DEEP and NRCS staff, along with the Connecticut Dam Safety Program, will provide an update on the plan and answer questions about why the rehabilitation is needed and possible alternatives.
The project would be scheduled for December 2019 and could include dam removal, structural rehabilitation or nonstructural measures. No action is also an option, the release said.
For further information on the meeting, contact Ray Frigon with DEEP at 860-424-3797 or Raymond.Frigon@ct.gov.
