Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal on Monday said that a special force namely, ‘Durgashakti Vahini’ would be constituted to put a check on the crime against women in the State.

“The main aim of this project is to ensure that girls feel secure at public places, workplaces and while travelling,” said the Chief Minister while speaking after inaugurating “Jaagriti” project in Jhajjar.

He said that it is the responsibility of the State Government to provide free travel facility to girls up to their educational institutions.

Announcing the launch of the ‘Chatra Parivahan Suraksha Yojana’, Manohar Lal said regardless of the number of students in an educational institution, their demand for free travel facility would be met. Nodal officers are being appointed under this Yojana whom girls would be able to submit their requirements, said he.

The Chief Minister said that unethical behaviour against women in any form would not be tolerated. After Madhya Pradesh, Haryana is the only state where provision of death penalty has been made for rape of children below 12 years of age. This step of Haryana Government is being appreciated and emulated by other states as well, said he.

Manohar Lal also expressed the hope that this law would be passed by the Lok Sabha for the entire nation. Social organisations would have to come forward and join hands with the State Government in dealing with social evils such as female foeticide, said he.

Expressing happiness over considerable improvement in sex ratio under the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign, he said that 33 per cent reservation had been given to women in elections to the Panchayati Raj Institutions.

Today, 42 per cent women representatives are heading gram panchayats in the state, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Jhajjar Deputy Commissioner, Sonal Goyal, said there had been considerable improvement in the sex ratio in the district.

When ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ was launched, the sex ratio in Jhajjar was 824 which has now crossed 920 girls per 1,000 boys, she said
