While on a recent spring break, Motorsports Editor Godwin Kelly, his wife Diane and their son Casey joined the newly formed Flagler Foodies group for dinner at Europa at the European Village in Palm Coast.
What is European Village?
The Village, as us townies call it, is a collection of restaurants, bars and shops in a tight ring around a courtyard area. Above the businesses are condos and I’m guessing the owners are not allowed to shout from their balconies “Get off the grass!” or “Keep the noise down!”
So why does Europa sound familiar to me?
Europa was a beautiful princess in Greek mythology. Zeus, the king of the gods, saw her gathering flowers by the sea and it was love at first sight. So naturally, he appeared before her as a magnificent and benevolent white bull. And there’s a ton more to the story, but they get married. The end.
Did you do the appetizer thing?
Yes we did. The selection was wide ranging, from stuffed mushrooms to crispy egg rolls. We went with an order of X-Caliber’s Colombian Expanadas. It was a signature appetizer dish created by Xavier, a member of the restaurant staff. It featured shredded beef and potato filling served with homemade pico.
What did you order?
First off, since we were with the Flagler Foodies group, we had a limited menu selection, but there was something for everyone. Diane ordered the filet of tenderloin and it was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of seasoning and spices. Casey ordered the mojo pork and to his surprise, was served three pork chops. Godwin wanted to try something different and ordered the mojo chicken, which included two, plump and juicy chicken breasts. Each of the plates had a side dish of black beans and rice. If we were on the five-star system, I’d give it an easy four and leaning toward 4½.
Damage report
So, it was a night out with a bunch of fun people and we used the full-service bar. The bill topped $100 for the three of us including appetizer, three meal orders and a few adult beverages.
