Heroin dealer tied to overdoses arrested in Iowa City

IOWA CITY — An alleged heroin dealer was arrested in Iowa City earlier this month.

According to a criminal complaint, around 10:34 p.m. on April 15, police pulled over 63-year-old Rickey L. Jones in the area of Walleye Drive and Herbert Hoover Highway. Authorities said Jones was carrying 12 grams of heroin.

Police said that over the course of a “lengthy” heroin investigation, they had previously made several controlled purchases of heroin from Jones. Their investigation showed that Jones provided heroin to other people, which was then distributed to others. Authorities said that heroin was attributed to several overdoses, one of which was fatal.

Jones has been arrested and faces one count of controlled substance violation, a Class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. His bond has been set at $25,000, according to Johnson County Jail records.
