Championship high school football games to move from Stark County

The state football championship games will be moving away from Stark County in 2019-20, OHSAA commissioner Dan Ross said on April 17 during a luncheon with the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.

While the state finals are slated to be played this coming November at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, the 2019-20 games will not be.

“They are working on the NFL’s 100-year anniversary and all the activities tied in with that,” Ross said. “We will not be there for ’19 or ’20. The possibility of where that will be is in process right now.”

The logical choice is Ohio Stadium, Ross indicated, but contract and plans have not been finalized for that yet.

“But we’re close,” Ross said.
