BELAGAVI: Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES), which seems to be losing its grip over the forthcoming Assembly elections due to its internal disputes, has initiated a harsh decision by terminating former MLA and its senior leader Digambar Patil from the Presidentship of MES Selection Committee, in Belagavi on Monday.

The decision was taken after Patil was found taking decision for MES without taking in to confidence its committee members.

It may be recalled here that Digambar Patil on April 14 had announced Vilas Belgaumkar as MES candidate for contesting from Khanapur Constituency, creating shock waves in Khanapur among the pro-Maharashtrain voters. Most of the people of the constituency were expecting MES to declare the name of Arvind Patil, who is the sitting MLA of Khanapur.

Irked over the same, Arvind Patil approached senior most MES leader and former Minister of Maharashtra N D Patil in a hotel during his visit to Belagavi on April 15. Out of 40 MES selection committee members, he was accompanied by 27 committee members, who have extended support to him.

According to sources, N D Patil immediately conducted a meeting all MES leaders and discussed in connection to the issue.

The meeting revealed that Digambar Patil along with 5 other selection committee members had taken the decision of nominating Belgaumkar as MES candidate for Khanapur constituency, without discussing or taking suggestions from other committee members.

The attitude of Digambar Patil will not only weaken MES, but also hammer its image among the voters, the members said.

Following the same, N D Patil announced that Digambar Patil is not only terminated from the post of President of MES Selection Committee, but also from MES.
