Shares of United Airlines parent higher after sales, earnings beat expectations
Shares of United Continental Holdings Inc. rose nearly 3% late Tuesday after the company reported first-quarter earnings and sales above Wall Street expectations. The parent company of United Airlines said it earned $147 million, or 52 cents a share, in the quarter, compared with $99 million, or 32 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Excluding one-time items, United Continental earned $143 million, or 50 cents a share, compared with 42 cents a share a year ago. Revenue rose to $9.03 billion, compared with $8.43 billion a year ago. Analysts polled by FactSet had expected adjusted earnings of 44 cents a share on sales of $9.02 billion for the quarter. United Continental shares ended the regular trading session less than 0.1% higher.
