Police team abused by protesters in Manjeshwar

Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police B.R. Ravikanthe Gowda has asked Kasaragod Superintendent of Police in Kerala K.G. Simon to book a case against protesters from Sunkadakatte village in Manjeshwar police station for allegedly blocking the movement of vehicle of the district police. Mr. Gowda told The Hindu here on Monday that Vitla Police Sub-Inspector Chandrashekar and his team were returning to Vitla from Anekal village in the morning. As they reached Sunkadakatte in Manjeshwar police station, the residents had blocked the road as a protest against the rape of two girls in Jammu Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh respectively. The protesters refused to allow the movement of the police vehicle.

The protesters abused the police team and reportedly threw mud on the police vehicle. Following a long deliberation, the protesters allowed the vehicle to move. After reaching Vitla, Mr. Chandrashekar submitted a report of the incident to Mr. Gowda.

Mr. Gowda said that he has forwarded the report to Mr. Simon and has asked him to book the protesters under Section 341 (wrongful restraint), 186 (obstructing public servants in discharge of duty) and other provisions of Indian Penal Code.
