Less than 13 hours after reportedly killing a man during a robbery, a man with ties to Abilene and Wichita Falls has been arrested on charges of capital murder.

A Wichita Falls Police Department news release states officers were sent to the 1400 block of Gladiolus Street by a Crime Stoppers tip about a man with warrants around 1:15 p.m.

Upon arrival, they located Eric Glenn Lee II, 22, at a residence. A records check confirmed the warrant issued earlier in the day was still valid and he was arrested.

The warrant stemmed from a shooting in the 1000 block of Juarez Street around 12:55 a.m. Tuesday.

Lee was accused of shooting 28-year-old Matthew Liggins, of Abilene. Liggins was taken to United Regional Health Care System, where he later died from his injuries.

Lee was taken into custody and taken to the Wichita County Jail without incident. His bail was not set as of Tuesday afternoon, but police had requested a $2 million bail.

He was still being booked into the jail around 4:15 p.m., so an updated mugshot was unavailable.

According to police, Lee was known to Liggins.

Sgt. Harold McClure said this was the second murder of the year in Wichita Falls.

Shannon Smith, 29, was found unresponsive on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds on Jan. 1 at the Maurine Street Apartments, 1200 Ridgeway Drive.
