Rape victim accuses parents of striking deal with culprit

Girl goes to police with ₹5 lakh paid by accused; mother arrested, father at large

The mother of a 15-year-old rape victim was arrested after the girl went to a police station with around ₹5 lakh token amount allegedly received by her parents to “settle” the matter with the accused’s family in Outer district, said the police on Monday.

The police added that the girl reached Prem Nagar police post under Aman Vihar police station with around ₹5 lakh wrapped in paper on April 10. She told the policeman on duty that her parents had taken the money from the man who had raped her a few months ago.

The accused was out on bail. The girl alleged that her parents were mounting pressure on her to change her statement.

“The victim reached the police station with ₹4.96 lakh in cash complaining against her parents for forcing her to give a false statement. After receiving the complaint from the girl, we have registered an FIR under Section 195A (Threatening any person to give false evidence) of the IPC, and Section 75 (Punishment for cruelty to child) of the JJ Act against the parents and the people who carried out the deal,” said M.N. Tiwari, DCP (Outer).

Went missing in 2017

He added that the mother was arrested while the victim’s father and other accused were absconding.

The girl was counselled and sent to a shelter home till further investigation.

Mr. Tiwari said that in August 2017, the girl was reported missing. She returned after a week and filed a complaint of being held hostage and gang-raped by a property dealer and his associates. The accused were arrested and sent to jail.

They had recently come out on bail.

“My parents fixed the deal for ₹20 lakh with a close associate of the accused property dealer and pressurised me to change my statement in the court. When I refused to do that, they beat me up and locked me in a room, constantly forcing me to change the statement,” the victim told to police.

₹20 lakh deal

On April 8, two men visited her house to settle the case and the deal was fixed for ₹20 lakh. They gave ₹5 lakh to her father as token amount. The remaining amount would have been transferred after giving the false statement in the court on the next hearing.

“My parents were out on work when I got the opportunity to report the matter to the police. I took the money kept under the bed and went straight to the nearest police station,” she added in her police complaint. The police said that taking cognisance of her compliant, an FIR was registered. The other accused will be arrested soon.
