Supporters stage protests over party ticket being denied to their leaders

Resentment over denial of ticket to contest the coming elections to the Legislative Assembly continued on Tuesday among supporters of both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Supporters of Manohar Tahsildar, Hangal MLA, and B.M. Nagaraj, Siruguppa MLA, held demonstrations outside Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s residence and voiced their anger over the Congress’ decision to deny ticket to their leaders.

In Udupi, a supporter of Muniyal Udaykumar Shetty, Congress aspirant for Karkala Assembly seat, doused kerosene on himself in a bid to self-immolate in front of the Hebri Block Congress Committee Office.

In Hassan, a group of Congress workers staged a protest in front of the District Congress Committee office opposing the party’s decision to field retired IAS officer Siddaiah in Sakleshpur constituency.

In Yadgir, a verbal clash ensued between followers of two BJP leaders Venkatareddy Mudnal and Sharanabhupal Reddy. Mr. Mudnal, who was the aspirant from Gurmitkal, was given ticket from Yadgir constituency despite his resistance, and Mr. Reddy was the key aspirant from Yadgir earlier.
