CHENNAI: DMK working president M K Stalin on Tuesday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking an appointment with him to discuss the Cauvery water dispute.
The letter comes a day after an all-party meeting convened by the DMK asked Stalin to take steps to meet the Prime Minister. “I write to you on behalf of political parties in Tamil Nadu, farmers’ associations, traders’ unions, labour unions and, most importantly, the common citizen, who are aggrieved by the recent events regarding the Cauvery river water dispute,” said Stalin.

“We seek an appointment to meet and apprise you of the sentiments prevailing in Tamil Nadu and urge you to intervene in this issue immediately,” he said.

“On behalf of the people of Tamil Nadu, I strongly urge you to direct the Union ministry of water resources to withdraw the clarification petition pending before the Supreme Court immediately and implement the Supreme Court judgment in letter and spirit by duly constituting the Cauvery Management Board at the earliest, and not wait till the next hearing on May 3 or till the end of Karnataka elections,” said Stalin.
