Activists demand justice for the victim

Women’s groups and political parties took out a candlelight rally on Tuesday demanding an end to atrocities on women and children. The activists also sought justice for the girl victim in the Kathua rape and murder case.

All-India Congress Committee (AICC) member Kidambi Prameelamma, who led the rally, expressed concern over the increasing crime against women and called it a blot on the society. In the same vein, she decried not only the union government’s stoic silence over the issue, but also the tacit support allegedly extended to the perpetrators. Ms. Prameelamma also wondered why the female members of the BJP were remaining mute spectators to the heinous crime and asked them to condemn the incidents, instead of trying to cover up the issue.

PCC secretaries T. Venkata Narasimhulu, Nainar Srinivasulu and Mahila Congress president R. Sridevi, who also participated in the rally, urged the BJP government to ensure free and fair probe into the case.
