The consumer-discretionary sector rallied on Tuesday, jumping at the top-performing industry group of the day following blowout results from Netflix. The sector rose 1%, the biggest gainer among the 11 primary S&P 500 groups. The industry was supported by Netflix Inc. which climbed 7% a day after reporting results that topped expectations, including adding more subscribers than had been forecast. The stock has been one of the biggest boosts to the sector thus far this year, a period of which it has risen nearly 70%. The consumer-discretionary sector itself is up 3.3% year-to-date. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.9% on Tuesday while the S&P 500 was up 0.6% and the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 0.8%.
