Mercury touches 40°C mark

Monday was the hottest day of the season so far

The maximum temperature on Monday touched the 40- degree-Celsius mark making it the hottest day of the season. The maximum was three degrees above the normal for the season and took a sudden jump from the 36.7 degrees Celsius recorded the previous day.

The highest maximum temperature for the month in the past ten years was recorded in April 2010 at 43.8 degrees Celsius.

Last year, the hottest day in April was 43.2 degrees Celsius on April 21.

Monday afternoon, however, was overcast and humidity levels oscillated between 83% and 34%. The minimum temperature settled at 22.4 degrees Celsius, one notch above normal.

Forecast for Tuesday is “partly cloudy sky in the morning with the possibility of strong surface winds during the day”.

The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to settle between 39 and 23 degrees Celsius.
