15 specialised industries take part in ‘safety expo’

The maiden Safety Review chaired by Vice Admiral Ajit Kumar, Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, was held here on Monday and Tuesday.

An official release said that the Safety Review, which would now be held annually and termed as Annual Safety Review (ASR), was inaugurated by Vice Admiral A.R. Karve, Flag Officer Commanding in Chief, Southern Naval Command.

The review was held under the aegis of the recently constituted Indian Naval Safety Team based in Kochi, which has been mandated to co-ordinate with various authorities within the Navy to improve the “risk-safety matrix” in training and operations.

As part of the review, a “safety expo” was organised at the naval base, with the participation of more than 15 renowned Indian industries, specialising in manufacturing marine and industrial safety equipment. Brainstorming sessions by experts within the Navy to improve the safety processes and methodologies in the training and operational domains of the Navy were also held on the occasion.

The expo was conducted with the aim of increasing awareness of the personnel with regard to the latest trends in personnel protective equipment and various other safety solutions.
