Bhopal: Depressed engineering student makes suicide bid


Bhopal: An engineering student, allegedly depressed over semester ‘back’ and lack of preparations for exams, made an abortive attempt to end her life by jumping into Upper Lake on Monday. However, the timely intervention of BNC divers deployed there saved the student’s life. The incident occurred under Talaiya police station, however, no complaint of attempt to suicide was registered against the student.

SHO ( Talaiya) Manishraj Bhadauriya said that Pragya Golayit, 19, a resident of Kotra Sultanabad is second year engineering student in  RGPV College. Pragya failed to clear one of her subjects in last semester exams and was supposed to appear the back paper exam on Monday. However, the girl was depressed as she feared that she will fail as she didn’t prepare much for the exam. On Monday morning at around 9.30 am, she reached near Mata ki Madiya and from there she jumped into the lake.

BMC drivers spotted the girl jumping and saved her from drowning. They called Dial 100 police and informed about the incident. The girl in her statement to police said that she was depressed as she could not prepare for the back paper exam and therefore she decided to take the extreme step. However, police did not register any case against the girl and she was later handed over to her parents.
