VELLORE:  A 17-year-old girl was found dead with a slashed wrist at her aunt's house at Ozhalai village in Arcot. The aunt and her family were out of station at the time of the incident.

According to Arcot police, the class XI girl had gone to her house, some 20 km from her own house on Monday evening.

After there was no response from her for a very long time, her father and brother tried reaching her on the mobile phone, but it was switched off. On Tuesday morning, her brother set off in search of her and when he reached the aunt's house at around 7 am, he saw her lying a pool of blood with her wrist slit and a blade nearby. Her bangles were also scattered on the floor. He immediately informed his family and the neighbours.

The girl, a bio-computer science student is said to have to gone to her aunt's house to collect her clothes, which she had taken with her while she stayed there to prepare for her exams.

On information, Arcot taluk police rushed to the spot and sent the body to the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital for postmortem, which would be done on Wednesday.

The police said that only the postmortem report would throw light whether it was a suicide or a murder.
