Market Update: TCS, Wipro shed 1% as CNX IT drags; Power Grid top gainer, Bharti Infratel down 2%

The market breadth was in favour of the declines with 788 stocks advancing while 893 declined and 363 remained unchanged. On the other hand, in the BSE, 1178 stocks advanced and 1244 declined and 125 remained unchanged.

The Indian equity market slipped into the red on Tuesday afternoon with the Nifty shedding 23 points and was trading just above the 10,500 mark at 10,505  while the Sensex was down 44 points or 0.13 percent.

The Nifty IT index was down 0.7 percent dragged by TCS which fell 1 percent while Wipro was down over 1 percent. Infosys and Infibeam were the other IT losers.

The top Nifty gainers included Power Grid which was up 2.5 percent while NTPC gained 1.9 percent. Hindustan Unilever, Mahindra & Mahindra and Lupin were the other gainers.

The most active Nifty stocks included Indiabulls Ventures which was down 2 percent while HDFC, Tata Motors, Infosys and Tata Steel were the other active stocks.

The top Nifty losers were Bharti Infratel which fell 2 percent followed by Wipro, Axis Bank Sun Pharma and Tata Motors.

The top BSE gainers included Indiabulls Ventures which was up 12 percent followed by Bajaj Electricals, GPPL, DCB Bank and Sterlite Tech.

Vakrangee, down 5 percent while Welspun, Kwality, Rain Industries and Raymond were some of the BSE losers.

40 stocks hit fresh 52-week high including Apollo Tyres, Balkrishna Industries, Bajaj Electricals, Escorts, Hindustan Unilever, Divis Labs, Jubilant Foodworks, Kotak Mahindra Bank, M&M, M&M Financial, Mindtree, MRF and Nestle were some of the stocks that hit new 52-week high.
