Food, festivities and 'mishti mukh' on Poila Boishakh
Ranchi’s Bengali population has a blast celebrating Poila Boishakh on April 15. While hundreds flocked the local Durga Bari for morning rituals and offered their prayers to the gods on the new year, many took the opportunity to go sweet-hunting in the capital. Many met relatives for ‘mishti mukh’ in the morning while afternoons were reserved for a grand spread of Bengali food. Local clubs organised musical evenings hosted by artistes from West Bengal complete with hit Bengali numbers. At Union Club and Library, a century-and-a-half old Bengali institution in Ranchi, there was a musical evening starring Biswajit, a Kolkata based artiste.
