VARANASI: Panic prevailed for a while among patients at the
Trauma Centre of
Banaras Hindu University when a fire broke out in UPS room on Tuesday afternoon. The patients were evacuated from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU), and the fire was controlled.
According to reports, the fire broke out in the UPS room causing panic among patients. The hospital staff swung into action and called the fire brigade. Three fire tenders were engaged to extinguish the fire. The BHU authorities claimed there was no loss of life and fire was controlled effectively.
According to BHU spokesperson
Rajesh Singh, there is no loss of life in this incident. Probable cause of the fire was electric short circuit. He said that immediately the staff swung into action and fire was controlled in about 30 minutes. The power supply was shut down. Attempts to restore power supply were started immediately.
He further said that the power supply was restored to ICU and HDU and Emergency OTs. No one was injured.
