Foreign devotees arriving in large number for ISKCON 'Chandan

Thousands of devotees from abroad have already turned up at the for Krishna Consciousness, to celebrate the 'Chandan Yatra festival' beginning here from April 18.

The foreign devotees flocking here for the event hail from 35-40 countries, a of the ISKCON said here today.

The centre is the global headquarters of ISKCON.

During the festival, which will continue for 21 days, a large procession carrying the deities on a palanquin will be taken out every evening within the ISKCON compound, he said.

The deities will then be placed on a nicely decorated swan-shaped boat and taken out for a ride in the pond.

As the name suggested, the devotees will smear the idol of with sandalwood paste (Chandan).

A grand Maha-Arti (worshipping the deity with lamp) will also be performed while the deities are seated on the boat.
