Maharashtra: Untimely downpour, lightning leave four dead in Yavatmal

Mumbai: Four people were left dead and four others were injured as lightning striked in Yavatmal district of Maharashtra on Sunday. The torrential downpour lashed parts of Yavatmal in the afternoon when people took shelter under a tree.

Local residents said the lightning bolt hit the tree under which the people had taken shelter after the weather became stormy. The deceased have been identified as Prabhakar Jadhav, Pandit Harne, Anil Sargule and Laxman Chopde. The injured people have been admitted to nearby hospital where Jitendra Sarduse, Vishal Sarkule, Kailash Suro and one more person are recuperating. The conditions of two of them are said to be critical.

Also, one farmer Alauddin Benure died due to untimely rain and lightning in Solapur. Other parts of Maharashtra including Latur, Marathwada, Nilanga, Akkalkot and Solapur have witnessed untimely rain that has damaged the crops.
