Annual event benefits Flagler Beach Historical Museum

Lori Grzybowski arrived Friday night from Chautauqua Lake, New York, ready to kick off a week-long vacation and girlfriends Donna Anderson and Denise Epperly were ready to oblige with an afternoon in Flagler Beach celebrating the 5th Annual Cheer at the Pier to benefit the Flagler Beach Historical Museum.

“I’m enjoying the sunshine because it’s an ice storm where I live,” said Grzybowski. “It’s beautiful. Cheers! This is the way to start a vacation.”

Other venues, such as Vilano Beach, which will host a pier event this weekend, are starting to catch onto the pier-style parties that mix local nonprofits, business ventures and governments.

Area restaurateurs are typically quick to sign up for the "cheer" events hosted by the Flagler Beach Historical Museum in an effort to showcase their menu items and name to the more than 500 guests who attend.

“This event contributes to the community, and anything for the Flagler Beach Museum,” said Anna Romanina, serving up seafood vol-au-vents, a shrimp, lobster and scallop dish in a creamy chardonnay sauce served over puff pastry and created by Oceanside Beach Bar and Grill.

Flagler Beach Mayor Linda Provencher sees a huge benefit for the city in hosting such events on the city's municipal pier.

“The museum is an integral part of the city," she said. "We love it. We want to support it and want people to know it’s there. This also gets the local restaurants to showcase their food as well, so hopefully people go and visit them.”
