Passengers of Kolkata Metro Railways had a providential escape late on Sunday evening when two successive blasts rocked a train running between Kavi Subhas and Netaji Stations, sources said adding some passengers sustained minor injuries as they broke the windows and made a hasty exit.

The blasts, Metro sources said could have happened on account of some electrical default in the power providing third rail, adding the incident would be investigated thoroughly.

Though it was closing time the train was crammed with Poila Boisakh (Bengali News Year’s Day) revelers Metro sources said adding things could have been worse had four bogies of the train not already had entered the Netaji station making evacuation easier for the Railway staff.

The Sunday’s incident takes place a within a week of two crude bombs detected on the tracks at Dum Dum Cantonment station.
