Twins recall RHP Busenitz from Triple-A

Alan Busenitz, who was impressive out of the Minnesota bullpen last season, was called up by the Twins from the minors on Sunday.

The 27-year-old right-hander grabs the roster vacancy created when outfielder Ryan LaMarre was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Friday. The Twins' entire weekend series against the Chicago White Sox was postponed due to inclement weather.

Busenitz was 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA in two relief appearances (2 2/3 innings) for Rochester this season. Last year, he went 1-1 with one save and a 1.99 ERA in 28 outings for Minnesota. He also appeared for the Twins in their American League wild-card loss to the New York Yankees, retiring one of the two batters he faced.

In 24 games with Rochester in 2017, he finished 3-0 with two saves and a 1.78 ERA.

Busenitz was a 25th-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Angels in 2013 out of Kennesaw State. He came to Minnesota along with lefty Hector Sanchez in the August 2016 trade that sent right-handers Ricky Nolasco and Alex Meyer to Anaheim.

The Twins are headed to San Juan, Puerto Rico, for a two-game series against the Cleveland Indians that begins Tuesday. Both teams are allowed to call up a 26th player for the series, and the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that the Twins might go with LaMarre, who was 4-for-8 in six games before his demotion.
