Brian Kent Harman, 67, of Independence, Mo., passed away early Sunday morning, April 15, 2018, following a long battle with MS. Cremation is planned with a private family memorial service to be held at a later date.

Brian was born Feb. 17, 1951, in Mount Vernon, Iowa, to Marvin and Georjean (Robinson) Harman. He was an accomplished guitarist and taught music at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, Canada, as well as the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Kansas City Kansas Community College. He and his brothers played in the band The Stompers, who were a local favorite and were inducted into the Iowa Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. He was an avid sports fan and loved the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was a member of the Groves congregation of the Community of Christ, and the Kansas City Federation of Musicians Local No. 34-627.
Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Ann; two sons, Jeremy Harman and his wife, Caitlin Vail, of Boston, Mass., and Nathan Harman and wife Julia of Olympia, Wash.; three siblings, Linda Harman Armknecht and husband Buzz of Independence, Mo., Greg Harman and wife Sandy of North Liberty and Randy Harman and wife Jo of Mount Vernon; and one grandson, Silas Harman-Vail of Boston.
