Komphela hints at Kaizer Chiefs exit

2018-04-16 10:33

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has hinted at his impending exit from the Soweto giants in a post-match interview after his side's 1-0 win over Platinum Stars.

Amakhosi beat rock-bottom Platinum Stars thanks to a Hendrick Ekstein goal five minutes after the half-time break to give the home side the three points at the FNB Stadium at the weekend.

In the post-match interview immediately after the game Komphela seemed to hint at his exit from the club with his contract set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

"Strength wise I have grown immensely," Komphela said. "As I go out I must thank everybody, the pressure that you receive makes you a better person. God is preparing me for another challenge be it outside of football or in the game.

"Emotionally I was a very weak person, but ask me now and you'll even ask yourself how does this guy even stand. Beyond a bit of brains that's been given to us, the emotions are stronger and that moves deeper into the level of faith.

"Maybe I need to be more faithful, and the only way to be more faithful is you have to have emotions that are strong, stable so that nothing hurts you. The fact that it had to be done, I'm where I am and I thank them so much."

Komphela also gave his thoughts on his side's ambitions for the remaining fixtures before the end of the season.

"Crucial fixtures, go through them add points on them and see how far it goes. It is our responsibility to keep grinding, keep playing and the greatest growth happens in discomfort.

"Show me anyone who has reached the pinnacle of a mountain without having gotten bruises, maybe this is where we have to be and don't question that just ask for more wisdom...rather than less problems."

Chiefs next face their biggest match of the season when they host Free State Stars in a Nedbank Cup semi-final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 20:15.
